Insider Tips

  • 1

Toronto is the most multicultural city on Earth. Over 50% of residents were born outside Canada. The food scene reflects this.

  • 2

BMO Field is right downtown on the waterfront at Exhibition Place. Walkable from hotels. This is rare for North American stadiums.

  • 3

TFC fans are no joke. The supporter groups (Inebriatti, Red Patch Boys, U-Sector) create genuine atmosphere.

  • 4

Niagara Falls is 90 minutes away. Worth a day trip, but go to the Canadian side - the views are better.

  • 5

The Presto card works on subway, streetcar, and bus. Get one at the airport.

  • 6

Tim Hortons is the Canadian coffee chain. Try a double-double (two cream, two sugar) to fit in.

Fan FAQs

How multicultural is Toronto really?

Over 50% of residents were born outside Canada. 200+ ethnic groups. You can find authentic food from basically any country. Little Italy, Greektown, Chinatown, Little India, Koreatown - they're all real neighborhoods.

Is the stadium downtown?

Yes! BMO Field is at Exhibition Place, right on the waterfront. You can walk from many downtown hotels. Streetcar runs directly there.

Should I go to Niagara Falls?

If you have a day, yes. It's 90 minutes by car, 2+ hours by bus. Stay on the Canadian side - way better views than the US side. The touristy stuff is cheesy but the falls themselves are incredible.

Do I need to tip in Canada?

Yes. Same as the US - 15-20% at restaurants, $1-2 per drink at bars. Tax (13% HST) is added to the bill, not included in prices.

What's the weather like?

June/July are gorgeous. 75-85Β°F, occasional humidity, sometimes afternoon thunderstorms. Much more pleasant than winter (don't ask about winter).

Budget Tips

  • The Presto card ($6) saves you money vs. single fares. Works on subway, streetcar, bus.
  • UP Express from airport to downtown is $12.35 - faster than Uber during rush hour.
  • Tim Hortons coffee is $2. Don't pay $7 at Starbucks.
  • Kensington Market has cheap eats and vintage shopping. Avoid downtown tourist prices.
  • St. Lawrence Market on Saturdays has a farmers' market with free samples.
  • Free things: Walk the waterfront, explore neighborhoods, attend street festivals (check listings)

Hidden Gems

  • Graffiti Alley - official street art corridor off Queen West. Instagram heaven.
  • Toronto Islands - ferry ride ($9) to car-free islands with beaches and city skyline views.
  • Distillery District - cobblestone streets with galleries, cafes, and the Mill Street Brewpub.
  • Kensington Market - bohemian neighborhood with vintage shops, cheap eats, and weird vibes.
  • High Park - massive urban park with a free zoo, cherry blossoms (in spring), and trails.
  • The Bata Shoe Museum - sounds weird, is fascinating. Shoes throughout human history.
