Fan FAQs
How bad is the heat really?
Bad. 95°F+ with humidity. Drink water constantly. Wear sunscreen. Stay in AC when possible. Evening matches are significantly more bearable.
What's the Clásico Regiomontano?
Tigres UANL vs Monterrey CF (Rayados). One of the fiercest rivalries in the Americas. Think Yankees/Red Sox. Don't wear the wrong jersey in the wrong neighborhood.
Is Monterrey safe?
San Pedro Garza GarcĂa (suburb) is extremely safe - one of the safest in Mexico. Downtown and touristy areas are well-patrolled. Use Uber, stay aware at night in Barrio Antiguo. Business travelers visit constantly without issue.
Do I need a car?
Uber is the move. The city is spread out and car-oriented, but Uber is cheap and everywhere. Don't bother with Metro unless you're going downtown.
What makes Monterrey different from other Mexican cities?
It's the industrial capital - more like Houston or Dallas than Mexico City. Wealthier, more business-focused, less colonial history. The food is Northern Mexican (more meat, more Texas influence).
